How Much are Shower Water Filters?

Shower water filters are great, but how much are they – there seems to be alot of them available nowadays.

Filtering water has so many benefits for skin and health – to help other navigate I wanted to round up and simplify what was out there.

If you have ever lived in a location that does not filter the water to your expectations, it is likely that you have considered installing a water filter in all parts of your home- including your shower. You might be concerned that the cost would not pay off wondering if the purchase is worth it.

How Much are Shower Water Filters? Shower water filters range between $20 to over $1,000 depending on the complexity of the filtration system. The average water shower filter is between $35-$70 USD with options for filters with or without a showerhead or shower wand.

While some of the features on various water filters are optional and depend on personal preference, other features are more of an industry standard and do not make sense to skip.

You will want to pay attention to the flow rate and overall effectiveness in what the filter is designed to eliminate from your water as you choose the best option for you.

Let’s take a closer look at what you would really be spending money on as you invest in a new shower water filter.

What Do Shower Water Filters Cost?

As you enjoy your freshly brewed coffee and think to yourself, “thank goodness I use an under sink water filter to provide filtered water for consumption,” you might begin to wonder about the water that goes on your body and not just in it.

From what I remember, you skin is your biggest body organ!

After all, why would you want to ruin a perfectly calm morning with dirty shower water? I’m talking about the ‘dirt’ you can’t see!

It is probably time to invest in an easy upgrade for your home – a shower water filter.

Not only do budget water filters sometimes have minimal flow rates, but they can have less effect on what contaminants they filter.

Thus, it is incredibly important to ensure that the shower water filter that you choose to purchase will effectively eliminate the contaminants that are most prominent in your water as well as deliver a flow rate of at least 2.5 gallons per minute (the industry standard).

As you consider your options, know that you can still find high-quality shower water filters without having to spend hundreds of dollars.

Instead, you can invest those additional savings into other water filtration systems in your home like an under sink water filter or a whole house water filtration system.

Either way, the shower water filter- even in purchasing replacement filters every now and then- should not set you back too much.

Popular Types of Shower Water Filters

So as you more closely identify the range that you are willing to invest in a shower water filter.

Otherwise, using an inexpensive but ineffective shower water filter can be a waste of your time and money- even if the money spent and effort installing is relatively minimal.

With that in mind, there are a few popular shower water filters that are high-quality and low in price that can meet the needs of your water filter preferences as well as budget. The cream of the crop you might say!

These include from my in-depth geeky research:

Let’s take a look at a few of the similar options between these different brands.

Shower Water Filters without Shower Heads

One option that you can choose with installing a shower water filter is to choose a shower filter that comes without a showerhead

Choosing to install this type of shower water filter is pretty easy as you will attach it to the base of your pre-existing shower head and then attach your shower head to the other end.

In a sense, this type of filter acts as an intermediary between the supply of the water and the spout that it comes out of in your shower.

These types of filters are not only effective, but they can be preferred because they are easily detachable if you choose that you would prefer not to use it at any point.

Instead of messing with the design of your bathroom, you can simply install this type of shower water filter and remove it at any time while still maintaining your pre-existing shower head.

Aquasana has great shower water filters without shower heads.

Crystal Quest does not have a shower water filter without a shower head, but it does offer a shower bath ball- something that is more rarely seen with its competition, yet is highly effective when taking a bath instead of a shower.

Regarding the price range, Pentair Pelican and Aquasana’s shower water filters without shower heads are roughly similar and provide a similar quality.

Realistically, it would probably come down to the style that you prefer with these if you were to choose between the two.

Then, the Aquasana Shower Filter without Shower Head is reasonably prices and a top pick.

Alternatively, if you prefer to take a bath (or want to have the option of taking a bath in filtered water without having to fill your tub with the shower head water filter).

Here is a filter bucket which is a really smart idea!

The Crystal Quest Bath Ball Filter is around the same price and does an excellent job.

Shower Water Filters with Shower Head

Another popular type of shower water filter option is a shower water filter that comes with its own shower head

Instead of having to place your pre-existing shower head at the end of this shower head, you simply have to uninstall your current one and attach this at the base.

These are very popular and come in a similar range Whether you want a white or chrome finish, you should be able to find the model that works well for you.

Regarding price, these range a little, but they are still very affordable and will vary in price mainly in the way that they are styled (modern costing a bit more).

The Aquasana Shower Filter with Shower Head won’t break the bank and gives you clean water easily.

Costing slightly less, the Crystal Quest Shower Filter with Shower Head is another good choice.

I’ve done the calcs for you, so I’m not suggesting anything that doesn’t get my personal geeky approval!

Of course, you will want to factor in the style, water filtered by the gallons per minute mark, and the type of filtration that is used with each of these models. But, all in all, these are great options that all fall under a similar range in price.

And, as you can see, these do not cost much more or less than the shower filters that come without a showerhead, so it is really a design choice on your end when it comes to deciding between these two types of shower water filter options.

Shower Water Filters with Wands

If you prefer to be able to use a removable shower wand when showering with your filtered water, then this option is available, too.

I’m a fan of wands for sure.

While some models will come with both a shower head and a removable shower wand that both receive filtered water, others stream the filtered water solely to a wand (but always have a holder anyways).

So, depending on what you are looking for, there are options available.

These are popular from Aquasana, and Crystal Quest as well.

Again, you will want to look at the styling of each of these products as this is where the price points differ for each brand.

But, the quality of water filtration is consistently there with these companies.

The Crystal Quest Handheld Shower Filter a winner

Reversible filter, lasts 1 year or so. You reverse flush the system which helps its longevity. It also has 3 different modes of dispersing water.

or Crystal Quest Handheld and Shower Head Combo Filter

Same same but has both functions.

Alternatively, if you opt to go with the Aquasana Shower Water Filter with Chrome Wand it’s a bit shinier – 6 months between filters.

This will just depend on the style that you are wanting and if you are willing to pay for the shiny, more modern appearance.

Either way, you are well on your way to a beautifully filtered shower experience with any of these options.

You can step out of your shower finally feeling clean, and get back to enjoying your freshly brewed coffee again for the perfect morning.

And a shower filter will also keep the shower/bath cleaner! Since the water carries less ‘dirty’ stuff!
